2013 Building Projects - 101 East Anna Street
Homeowner Partners - The Wakefield Family
Project Sponsor - New Jersey Association of Realtors Housing Opportunity Foundation Start Date: May 2013 ABOUT THE PROJECT: Habitat Cape May received an amazing donation last fall - a 4-bedroom ranch-style home in immaculate condition, from the Collins family of Ocean City. The Collins were building a new home, and offered the house to Habitat to relocate to a lot in Middle Township. The house was moved from Spruce Rd in Ocean City to Anna St in Whitesboro at the end of April, and after the masons complete the new foundation, Habitat volunteers will start a 6-week renovation project to add a new porch, deck and roof, as well as complete interior and exterior renovations to make it good as new. We are thrilled to have this project sponsored by the New Jersey Association of Realtors Housing Opportunity Foundation, and look forward to local Cape May County realtors joining us on the work site. Our schedule should be finalized the week of May 12th - and volunteer signup will be available online. Our partner family's mom Sharay Wakefield grew up in Whitesboro, and is looking forward to her own home in her old hometown. Amazingly she has already contributed more than her family's required 300 hours of sweat equity working on other Habitat homes, but we know that won't stop her from joining our crew on Anna Street. NEW JERSEY ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS WORKDAYS: Six special workdays have been designated for volunteers from our sponsoring organization, the New Jersey Association of Realtors: Tuesdays 6/11, 6/8 & 6/25, and Thursdays 6/13, 6/20 & 6/27. On these days, four-hour morning and afternoon shifts have been reserved for local realtors to join our volunteer work crew in Whitesboro, and help in the construction project. Each day will have exterior carpentry tasks for anyone interested in swinging a hammer, as well as interior prep, painting and clean up projects. Experience is not necessary, as a trained Habitat for Humanity construction professional, as well as a volunteer coordinator, will be on site to provide instruction and support to all volunteers. Realtor volunteers are also welcome to join us on other volunteer days as posted on our event calendar. To sign up as a realtor volunteer online, go to the EVENT CALENDAR, click on a shift, and complete a simple registration. Make sure you indicate you part of the New Jersey Association of Realtors group on the second screen of registration. Once you are registered, just sign up online for any available shift. You will receive a confirmation email with more details about the workday, as well as a reminder email 24 hours before your shift. See Online Volunteer Sign Up page for more information. How to get to the worksite: East Anna Street is 2 blocks south of the intersection of Route 9 and Main Street in Whitesboro, Middle Township. From the GSP south, take exit 6, and turn left (west) on North Wildwood Blvd. Turn left at the light (Route 9), Anna Street is the 2nd Street after the next light at Main St. Turn left on Anna - the house will be on the right. |
