PUBLIC MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE CITY OF OCEAN CITY
The City of Ocean City in coordination with the Habitat for Humanity Cape May County office will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 30, in the Howard S. Stainton Senior Center.
To address the cty’s affordable housing obligation, the city invites all to attend this meeting, as two locations, one at 240-244 Haven Avenue (Block 213 Lot 22) and a second at 224-226 Simpson Avenue (Block 214 Lot 11) are being considered for Habitat for Humanity projects.
At the meeting, the public will learn about the two locations and Habitat for Humanity Cape May County. Shawn Lockyear, the executive director of Habitat for Humanity Cape May County, will make a presentation showing how Habitat for Humanity can help the city with its affordable housing obligations. The city and Habitat for Humanity are looking at a potential partnership that would utilize the above properties to construct new units with families who meet rigorous financial and training requirements, contribute sweat equity, and are able to make mortgage, insurance and property tax payments. To make this partnership work, we are reaching out to get your input, as this initiative would aim to add active families to the city and schools. These projects will also offer a unique opportunity for Ocean City residents to participate as volunteers on these Habitat construction projects, and help make the dream of home ownership come true for deserving local families.
