Project Sponsor - Thrivent Financial Start Date: August 5, 2014 DEDICATION DATE: December 14, 2014 ABOUT THE PROJECT: Habitat Cape May is partnering with Thrivent Financial on our first Thrivent Builds project in Cape May County starting August 5, 2014. The project will run until December 2014, with the home dedication currently scheduled for Saturday December 13th. There will be scheduled volunteer workdays on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as two Saturdays per month. THRIVENT FINANCIAL VOLUNTEER WORKDAYS: Special Saturday workdays will have reserved spots for Thrivent Volunteers, including the kick-off day on Saturday August 16th. Thrivent Volunteers are welcome to sign up for workdays independent of your congregation group any time you are available - volunteer days are posted online. To sign up as a THRIVENT VOLUNTEER online, go to the EVENT CALENDAR, click on a shift, and complete a simple registration. Make sure you indicate you part of the Thrivent group on the second screen of registration. Once you are registered, just sign up online for any available shift. You will receive a confirmation email with more details about the workday, as well as a reminder email 24 hours before your shift. See Online Volunteer Sign Up page for more information. VOLUNTEER INFORMATION: Prior to arriving on site, volunteers are required to complete a short safety course & orientation online:
Please arrive by 8am for registration on special Thrivent Volunteer workdays. At registration, you will be asked to sign in, as well as complete a Habitat Volunteer Waiver/Release form. All volunteers will also receive a safety briefing at the beginning of the work day. What to wear: Boots or sturdy shoes with thick soles, no baggy or loose clothing, and jeans if weather permits. Shorts are permitted in hot weather. What to bring: work gloves, and a hammer if available. Habitat & Thrivent provide nail aprons, safety equipment (hard hats, safety glasses), all other tools, equipment and materials necessary for the project.Habitat & Thrivent will provide morning coffee and refreshments, lunch at 12 noon, and water throughout the day. If you have special dietary needs, please consider bringing your own lunch. Supervision/Staffing: A Habitat-employed experienced construction professionals will be onsite at all times to supervise volunteers and building activities. A volunteer coordinator will also be on site to ensure that volunteers have the necessary supplies and direction, and to provide assistance as needed. How to get to the worksite: Sumner Street is 4 blocks from the intersection of Main Street and Route 9 in Whitesboro, Middle Township. From the GSP south, take exit 6, and turn left (west) on North Wildwood Blvd. Turn left at the light (Route 9), and right at the next light at (Main St). Proceed west two blocks to George Street and turn left (baseball field and Martin Luther King Rec Center are on corner of George and Main). Proceed south on George Street - then turn right at the second street, which is Sumner Street. The worksite will be halfway down the street on the left. NOTE: Google maps (see below) shows Sumner Street as Grant Street. |
